“I am proud to be associated with Bright Red” – Susan Davison, Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Wednesday 12th May is International Nurses Day! Organised annually by the International Council of Nurses, International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world! This week, to show our appreciation, we’ll be sharing interviews and stories of our wonderful Bright Red nurses posted around the North East.

Today we feature Susan Davison at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead.

Susan first got involved with Bright Red following the provision of funding for her current post as a haematology nurse which started in July 2019. Since starting, Susan has learnt a lot about the role of the Bright Red Charity and vital work we do to improve the lives of people with blood cancer in the region.

When asked what Susan loved about her role she said “being able to provide support to people diagnosed with blood cancer at all stages of the illness. I enjoy helping to provide a seamless service for patients, their family members and carers.”

“I am proud to be associated with Bright Red. I have always felt supported by the charity and admire their dedication to improving patient care. Bright Red has also been involved in supporting the North East Haematology Nurses group and provides help with practical aspects of the role.”

Nursing staff working throughout the pandemic have shattered the stereotypes of nursing. The world has seen first-hand the fundamental role nursing plays in patient safety. Whilst it has been challenging to work through the pandemic Susan and her team have been able to find new ways of working in order to support our patients, and keep them safe, whilst providing the seamless service they always succeed in achieving.

“The excellent haematology team at the QE Hospital inspires me. I feel lucky to work with a fantastic group of role models who provide support to not only patients and carers, but also support me in this role and my future development.”

Bright Red would like to say a huge thank you to Susan for her ongoing support and commitment to her role at the Queen Elizabeth.
