Lee Robson Patient Care Awards are one-off monetary awards given to patients in most need of financial assistance. The wonderful Robson family have supported Bright Red and raised funds for many years to help us to continue this essential service.
This year Shauna Dean, Lee’s sister, completed Dry January to raise money for another Lee Robson Patient Care Award.
In 2012 after completing a 500 mile bike ride in aid of bright red to raise funds for the first outreach nurse, Lee was given the devastating news that his leukaemia had returned for the second time. This time Lee received two courses of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
Unfortunately in June 2013, Lee and his family were told his leukaemia had returned a third time and was now terminal. He was given 3-4 months to live. After only three weeks Lee passed away surrounded by his loving family.
As a family, the Robson’s have done so many different fundraising events. They have done: punk nights, karaoke nights, sponsored walks, the Great North Run and now Dry January.
Now, Shauna and her family are fundraising to give patients a one-off financial relief grant worth £250.
Shauna who works as a nurse took up the Dry January challenge: “I love my Prosecco, so this challenge was a struggle! Dry January was hard, but remembering Lee’s suffering kept me going – I wanted to do it for him.
It was a very long month, as the stress of being deployed to give COVID vaccines took its toll at times. But I did it! I did it for Lee and for all the other patients who are fighting and those who have lost their battle. I must admit, I enjoyed a few glasses of Prosecco when I finished!”
